Swindon Garden Rooms builds fully insulated garden rooms across Swindon and Wiltshire — buildings you use in February as happily as June. Insulation is the difference between a garden room and an expensive shed: without it, a beautiful building is unusable for a third of the year and mouldy by its second winter.
Our standard build-up insulates the floor, walls and roof with rigid PIR board inside a timber frame, wraps it in a breathable membrane, and finishes with double glazing — the same principles as a modern house wall, scaled to a garden building.
How the insulation works
Insulated floor
PIR between floor joists over a ventilated base — the layer cheap builds skip, and the reason their floors feel cold by October.
Insulated walls & roof
Rigid PIR boards in the frame with airtight taping — holds heat in winter and, just as importantly, keeps summer heat out.
Double glazing
uPVC or aluminium double-glazed windows and doors as standard — glazing is where poorly built rooms leak their warmth.
Ventilation
Trickle vents and airflow design prevent the condensation that ruins uninsulated buildings.
What an insulated room costs to run
This is the part that surprises people: a properly insulated 4m × 3m garden room holds comfortable temperatures with a 1–2kW panel heater used sparingly — pennies per working day, even at current electricity prices.
